Abstract

My interested in balanced literacy strategies stems from students who struggle to engage in literacy and literacy instruction and how strategies can be used to support students in literacy. Chapter 2 provides research on the recent evolution of literacy, what balanced literacy means, and what strategies support a balanced literacy framework. Chapter 3 includes recommendations for school districts looking to implement a balanced literacy framework and/or resources. Chapter 3 also provides administration, teachers, and staff with balanced literacy strategy recommendations such as: professional development, scheduling, class size, and resource availablity.
