Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has taken society by storm. Discussions are underway in higher education on how best to embrace it without jeopardizing core academic principles such as integrity, creativity, and critical thinking. A 2023 survey of 1,223 students by Intelligent.com revealed that 46% of the respondents reported using AI for schoolwork. Of the academic disciplines surveyed, 49% of the students used it for English writing assignments versus 41% for chemistry or biology. The preponderant use of AI for English assignments speaks volumes to the uneasiness that many students experience when it comes to writing in the academic genre. This paper demonstrates how the Centaurian Approach to AI use can be leveraged successfully to teach academic writing.
