Abstract

We have all likely experienced moments (if not days and weeks) of hopelessness since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. With hopelessness as a launching point, this piece begins with introspection through detailing entrapment with family during the initial COVID lockdown and then moves outward towards the social through confrontation of the white supremacy that has been rendered ever more visible in the context of COVID. If we are to heal the violence and trauma of racism that has been at the foundation of this country, the use of hopelessness as a starting point can lead us into the messiness of the human interior and provide clues and potential paths to a larger social reckoning.
