Western expansion, American religious history
This thesis examines the commonly portrayed myth that settlers of the American West lived in a non-religious society. The battle over missions between Baptist churches of the West and East highlights the deeply religious society that took root in the west and counters many modern historians oversight of this important part of American westward expansion.
