Abstract

St. Cloud area business leaders reported their strongest summer business activity in three years, and expectations for future growth through the winter were twice as strong as year-ago levels. Investment plans are near recent highs. On the other hand, the St. Cloud Index of Leading Economic Indicators forecasts a slight decline in employment over the next 4-6 months. A reliable pre-recession indicator flashed a warning of difficult times ahead. Against a challenging national economy, the St. Cloud Area Quarterly Business Survey showed local businesses more confident of their futures.
