Abstract

The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT) has transformed modern industries, particularly the automotive sector, by redefining transportation systems through connected vehicles, smart mobility services, predictive maintenance, and autonomous driving. This is the conceptual review that explores the multidimensional impact of IoT in the automotive industry that focuses mainly on data-driven innovation, connectivity and automation. The PRISMA-based conceptual review was used for synthesizing key literature for identification of current trends, challenges as well as the future opportunities that helps in core study. Some of the major findings has highlighted the role of IoT to improve efficiency, experience of customer and safety through the intelligent support system in decision making, real-time exchange of data and predictive maintenance. However, there are some challenges such as ethical data governance, issues of interoperability and vulnerabilities in cybersecurity that brings some critical barriers. The conceptual model proposed in this research demonstrates a layered architecture illustrating the interconnection of all the layers such as application, network and perception layers that are governed by stakeholders working in certain sectors. This study or review also highlights contribution to existing literature by integration of the perspectives such as environmental, technological and organizational that offers a deep understanding of adoption of IoT in the domain of automotive sectors.
